Udall's Cove Park Preserve

Was here for Seatuck org's river herring and eel run monitoring project. I did not see fish or eels but was impressed by what I saw. Yes it could use a good trim. Lots of invasive vines and multiflora rose. Super Stewards! Its likely trash free precisely because there is NO parking. Get that. NO parking. You walk or bike here. End of story.

Brought back a lot of memories. I grew up not far away, my first time back in 40 years. "The Cove" was a stomping ground for me and my friends long before there were marked trails, signage etc. We used to get there by walking the LIRR train tracks and sliding down a steep embankment. Udall's is a nice place to take a walk. Quiet . Peaceful. Beautiful views of Little Neck Bay and beyond. A welcome respite from the rest of the urban cesspool that is NYC.

I love any place where I can find strange bits of nature, and animals like turtle and frogs, and trails are maintained. At the southern portion of the park, it is extremely narrow, and the trails cut through from one local street right to the next, so they're really short and quick. Some older trails appear to have been neglected/abandoned and are overgrown.

Further north, where my photos were taken at the pond, it's better. Next time I'll venture even further north, to where the Cove begins at the Bay.

Udall's Cove is a gem for birders, especially if you want to watch osprey.
