Twin Lights State Park is a must visit if you are in the area of Sandy Hook. Lighthouse with twin lights primarily made for letting marines know the identity of the facility, and one beacon remains fixed in the night and another one flashes. Both towers are non-identical. This facility has wealth information presented in the museum. Good place for children to learn about the past of this historic site. You can climb one of the towers. You can see Manhattan clearly if you climb the tower.
The Pledge of Allegiance was presented as the national oath of loyalty by its author, France Bellamy during the Liberty Pole dedication ceremony at this Lighthouse in 1893, marking the first Pledge at an official patriotic event.
Beautiful place to visit. Historic as well. We went all the way to the top. Stunning views of the sea. Also a beautiful place to have a picnic nearby. Interesting story in the small museum at the site.
Very cool place. Definitely worth seeing if you love lighthouses. There is a cute little gift shop and museum inside. We even got to climb both towers!! It's free to visit, you only pay a small fee to climb the towers.
Twin Lights is a State Historic Site built in 1862 and located in the Highlands. The towers were built so mariners would not confuse them with the Sandy Hook Lighthouse. I was able to climb the spiraling narrow steps to the top of both the North and South Towers of the Twin Lights. Once at the top, the panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean, Sandy Hook Bay and the New York City skyline were amazing. There are museums you can tour and learn a lot about the history and purchase a souvenir at the gift shop. There are picnic tables outside for you to enjoy the beautiful view. Fun Fact: On April 25, 1893, The Pledge of Allegiance was said for the very first time at the Navesink Light Attendants Station better known today as Twin Lights.
A really great place to visit. The history is fascinating. Love getting to see the different light fixtures used over the decades and tour the museum. You can even see NYC from the front of the lighthouse. Only one of the light house towers was open during my visit.
