Our family has been to many funerals at this location including my nephew and my mom. My aunt paid for and made her own funeral arrangements back in 2006. She even picked her own casket. Because I live in California and my aunt was in a nursing home in the Bronx, (while on vacation in 2019), I took her original paperwork to Ortiz to confirm everything. I was told they could not find her paperwork. I met Barbie in person and she assured me that it would not be a problem. On March 2021 my aunt passed away at the age of 99 yrs old. I contacted Barbie at Ortiz who immediately took care of everything. Barbie was very sweet, compassionate and understanding. The funeral was a few days later and although it was a bit frustrating trying to get anyone on the phone, they did a pretty good job. We did a zoom funeral and my aunt looked beautiful and the actual funeral went smooth. Ortiz came though with flying colors. There was a small extra charge because of Covid changes but they DO accept credit cards and they will add 3%. This was great news for me since I could not attend the funeral due to Covid. The only downside is their communication. You cannot leave a message or email and you can easily make 10 calls before you speak to anyone. You will call and get a FAX beep for a few calls or the phone can ring off the hook. It's seems unreal that in this day and age you cannot leave a message and this is what leads to the process becoming so frustrating. I'm sure if I lived in NY I could have gone to the office for better service. It's been over a month and I do not have a death certificate, they have not charged my credit card and nobody has called me back. I'm still happy with their service even with all of their faults. I believe that Ortiz funeral home has many years of experience in the industry and I would not hesitate to use them again. I can tell that Barbie is doing the best job she can with what she has been given and my hat goes off to her for her hard work. I''m grateful to know that my aunt got exactly what she wanted even if I lost a few hairs in the process. Namaste!
