Cute little cafe not too far from the busy streets of Little Neck. Right when I walked in, it reminded me of old school Hong Kong style cafes and it was so homey. This is a self service spot where you order at the counter and get to sit anywhere you want. There aren't a lot of tables since it isn't a huge space.
The one thing I kept seeing all over social media was their Lava French Toast, so I HAD to try it. It's a classic thick Hong Kong style french toast with marscapone cream with cocoa powder sprinkled on top. This was very different for me and I'm glad I tried it. Not extremely sweet, but I recommend sharing it with other people because it does get heavy. The Hokkaido Cheese Tart sounded really promising, but it was so small and expensive. I personally would not get it again. For a savory dish, I went for their Ox Tongue Spaghetti. It was a decentely sized dish, cooked really well and had a lot of flavor. I really liked their Black Pepper sauce.
I enjoyed most of the food here and they have a variety of options, but I do think they are on the pricier side compared to other spots. It's worth a shot to try though!
Great spot with some classic Hong Kong favorites on the menu, all excellently done. And there's more, with some Japanese dishes particularly on the specials rotation. We tried the HK French Toast, pig knuckles and pork katsu, as well as the rice rolls with fish balls. Every dish was flavorful. Definitely returning!
I recently visited Marathon cafe with a group of friends and had a comforting experience. The cafe had a cozy and inviting atmosphere, making it the perfect spot for a casual catch-up with friends. It is a family ran Hong Kong traditional styled cafe and food was served quickly.
The menu had a great selection of options, from classic coffee and milk tea drinks to delicious cheese tarts and both quick bites and full entrees. I particularly enjoyed the beef macaroni with an egg in tomato bisque. It was expertly crafted and had a rich, smooth flavor.
Overall, I would highly recommend Marathon cafe to anyone looking for a comfortable and casual spot to grab a bite to eat or a drink with friends.
It is not just any Hong-Kong-style cafe, it is a unique Hong-Kong-style cafe that serves gourmet dishes with affordable pricing. Dishes are clearly made with great care and with lean quality ingredients. It is like finding hotel-quality dishes in a small Chinese cafe. Play attention to limited-time-offered dishes posted only on the wall. I also appreciate all the self-serving setup towards keeping the operating cost down, and yet still keeping the environment clean, neat, comfortable and HK-relevant.
Delicious food and drinks. Already went there a few times, my favorite is the black pepper pork chop. Other food are yummy too, will try more on their menu soon. hope they will continue to broaden their menu to include more authentic hk style food. Very friendly staff.
